Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson voted to approve the results of a House and Senate conference report, focused on a package of bills intended to turn the tide against the nationwide epidemic of opioid abuse and heroin use. The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (S.524) conference report must be approved by the U.S. Senate before being sent to President Obama’s desk for his signature. As a member of the House Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Heroin Epidemic, Thompson has been actively addressing the issue.

Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today voted in favor of H.R. 2646, the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, which was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives with overwhelming bipartisan support. The Thompson cosponsored legislation represents the most significant reform to our nation’s mental health care system in decades. Before his election to Congress, Thompson provided and managed rehabilitation services for more than two decades, including acute psychiatric care.

Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today announced the award of a $172,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration to the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health, located on the University Park Campus of Penn State University. The funding will be used to continue the Office of Rural Health’s mission of strengthening health care delivery systems for rural health care providers across the commonwealth.
Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today announced the award of $350,000 from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration to Penn State University’s College of Nursing’s Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship program. This program is dedicated to training nurses through service in rural areas and in medically underserved areas across Pennsylvania. The grant provides funding to approximately 20 primary care nurse practitioner students in their final year of study beginning this fall.

Washington, DC – Legislation authored by U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) that will protect the rights of private mineral owners in the Allegheny National Forest (ANF) was approved today on a bipartisan basis by the House Natural Resources Committee.
Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) and Sen. Pat Toomey (PA) today announced that President Barack Obama has signed into law H.R. 433. The measure designates the Post Office in Knox, Clarion County, as the Specialist Ross A. McGinnis Memorial Post Office. McGinnis lost his life in the line of duty on Dec. 4, 2006, while serving with the Army in Iraq. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President George W. Bush in 2008.
