Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Glenn ‘GT' Thompson (PA-5) issued a reminder to students that one week remains to enter the 2016 Congressional Art Competition. As in years past, the winning piece of artwork from each congressional district across the country will be displayed on exhibit in the U.S. Capitol for a year.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5), a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee, welcomed Pennsylvania State Rep. Marty Causer (PA-67th Legislative District) to Capitol Hill for a committee hearing focused on the importance of the oil and natural gas industry, especially in rural areas.

Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today applauded the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for making changes to their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system. The long overdue change will encourage more wood use in building construction.

Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today expressed relief that the Commonwealth’s 267 day budget impasse will soon come to an end, after Gov. Wolf announced that he will not veto a recently passed funding bill. Included in the legislation is funding for school districts across the Commonwealth and for nonprofit agencies, which have both struggled during the impasse. Federally-appropriated funding will also be released for Penn State Extension, which faced the possibility of 1,100 layoffs as soon as May 1st.

Washington, DC – Today, on the 261st day of Pennsylvania’s state budget impasse, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) and members of Congress from Pennsylvania called upon Gov. Wolf to release federally-appropriated funds that support the Commonwealth’s largest industry, agriculture. In particular, the funds are essential to operations of the Penn State Extension offices, which support agricultural services and education in all 67 counties.

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) voted in favor of H.R. 3797, the Satisfying Energy Needs and Saving the Environment (SENSE) Act. The legislation, which passed the House by a vote of 231 to 183, addresses U.S. Department of Environmental Protection (EPA) regulations placed on coal refuse-to-energy, or waste coal, power plants across the nation. The majority of those plants, 14 of 19, are located in Pennsylvania.

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) announced a $17.8 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to Penn State University, which will be used over the next five years. The grant funds will be dedicated to the growth of efficiencies and materials for next-generation electronic devices. The grant for the university’s Materials Research Institute was one of only two in the nation awarded by the NSF.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) announced that Ms. Karlee Xander of Corry, Erie County, has accepted a fully qualified appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy. Karlee is the daughter of David Proper and Melissa Lyon. She is also the step-daughter of Michelle Proper and David Lyon.

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) announced that Lachlan Campbell, a student at State College High School, is Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District’s winner for the 2015 Congressional App Challenge. Campbell’s software application, or “app,” is entitled “Noodles,” and is designed to store the recipes of users and to help them discover new dishes to create. The app has several hundred users in more than 40 countries.
