Washington, DC –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today issued the following statement, upon learning that the DuBois Business College (DBC) will soon close its doors after 131 years of serving students and employers. In addition to the DBC main campus in DuBois, the school operates branch campuses in Huntingdon, Oil City and Philipsburg.

Bellefonte, PA –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5), in a letter sent Friday, Aug. 26, expressed concern about the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) “Zero Discharge” rule, which is intended to prevent wastewater from unconventional oil and gas wells from being treated at publically-owned treatment facilities. In the letter to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, Thompson joined with U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (PA-3) to express concerns that the regulations, as written, would also affect the treatment of wastewater from traditional conventional oil and gas wells.

Bellefonte, PA – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Southern Airways Express, LLC (Southern) a contract to provide commercial air service flights from the DuBois Regional Airport (DUJ) to Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) and Baltimore/Washington International-Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). The service is offered under the DOT’s Essential Air Service Program.

U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today announced $500,000.00 in funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission to the Pennsylvania Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship, located in Russell, Warren County. The grant will be dedicated to the Center’s Nature Tourism Cluster Development in the Pennsylvania Wilds, which is intended to develop a network of small businesses to support the increased need for products and services in the region.

Glenn ‘GT' Thompson's (PA-5) "Barnyard Discussion" on agriculture policy, which took place this week during Penn State University's Ag Progress Days. Thompson is a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee and the chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry.

Bellefonte, PA –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today announced the awarding of $33,400 to Pennsylvania from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to help combat White-Nose Syndrome, a deadly fungus that has killed between 5.7 million and 6.7 million bats across North America. This is the seventh year the USFWS has provided grants to states for the purpose of research and addressing the disease.

Oil City, PA –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today announced $586,075 in financial assistance to more than 360 Pennsylvania dairy producers enrolled in the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Margin Protection Program for 2016. The payments, which are for the period of May and June, will be the largest since the program began in 2014, totaling nearly $11.2 million nationwide.

Washington, DC – This week, the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously approved H.R. 670, the Special Needs Trust Fairness Act, which was introduced by U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5). The legislation removes arbitrary legal barriers that prevent individuals with disabilities from independently creating Special Needs Trusts.

Washington, DC –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today joined House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and House colleagues for a signing ceremony of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (S.524). The bill now goes to President Barack Obama’s desk for signature. Thompson, a member of the Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Heroin Epidemic, has been a vocal advocate for addressing this national crisis.
