Thompson Applauds Withdrawal of the ‘Waters of the United States’ Rule

June 27, 2017

WASHINGTONU. S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, Vice Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, today released the following statement after the Trump administration announced its intent to formally withdraw the “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule. The rule expanded the Clean Water Act under the Obama administration’s Environmental Protection Agency. It was overly burdensome on rural America and negatively impacted our nation’s farmers and growers:

“The ‘Waters of the US’ rule was flawed from the beginning. It created more confusion and regulatory burdens for farmers and private landowners. It went as far as calling the drainage ditch in front of your yard a ‘navigable waterway.’ I applaud the Trump Administration for rescinding this fundamentally flawed proposal.”
