RESSON – U.S. Rep. Glenn "G.T." Thompson issued three challenges during the third annual Agriculture Summit at Mount Aloysius College on Monday.

Thompson, the House Committee on Agriculture's GOP leader, called upon schools to establish or expand agriculture programs and asked land grant universities to continue getting the word out about what farmers, ranchers and foresters do to help the environment and the climate.

He then emphasized the role "all of us" could play.

Now that he's the top Republican on the House Agriculture Committee, U.S. Rep. Glenn "G.T." Thompson is continuing to work on getting whole milk back into schools.

"I think most folks in Washington, including (Ag Secretary) Tom Vilsack, know my goal of restoring whole milk in our school districts," Thompson said during an April 6 meeting with 97 Milk, a whole milk advocacy group, at the Durlach-Mt. Airy Fire Co.

U.S. Rep. Glenn "G.T." Thompson fears a generation of milk drinkers may have been lost due to a decade-old federal policy that prohibits whole milk being served to students in schools.

That leaves only skim and 1% milk, which, the congressman realizes, many children likely consider less flavorful. Therefore, they get turned off to milk.

The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2021 highlights the many benefits milk provides to young Americans. From providing numerous essential nutrients to multiple health benefits, milk remains critical to youth development.

WASHINGTON Congressmen Glenn ‘GT' Thompson (R-PA) and Jim Langevin (D-RI), co-chairs of the Congressional Career and Technical Education (CTE) Caucus, today introduced the Transportation Workforce Centers of Excellence Act to boost transportation workforce training opportunities offered at community and technical colleges across the nation. The bill will provide $50 million in competitive grants to strengthen education and training programs in targeted industries.
