U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT' Thompson on Wednesday encouraged students in Pennsylvania's 15th Congressional District to participate in the Congressional App Challenge.

The Congressional App Challenge is a public effort to encourage students to learn how to code through annual district-wide competitions hosted by Members of Congress for their district.

It is the most prestigious prize in student computer science. Participation in the challenge has grown exponentially and has reached underserved, diverse, and rural student populations.

Raising awareness to the impact abandoned mine drainage has on Little Anderson Creek was the purpose for a meeting Tuesday.

U.S. Rep. Glenn "G.T." Thompson, state and Clearfield County officials met at property owned by Reed Johnson and Gary Weber near the Union and Bloom townships' line.

Those in attendance toured several sites on the property where issues were created by mining performed years ago — including deserted high-walls and collapsed mine entrances.

This afternoon Congressman Glenn Thompson visited the Andersen Creek Watershed in Clearfield County calling for the reclamation of over 100 acres of land.

A trust fund was founded in 1977 as a result of the Abandoned mine land reclamation act to restore abandoned coal mines.

According to Congressman Thompson, this district has more abandoned mine sites than the other 434 districts added together.

He said reclaiming the abandoned mine sites on the Andersen Creek Watershed is a top priority.

While the Paycheck Protection Program has helped thousands of businesses stay afloat, Pennsylvania Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson says some farmers are still sinking.

"These farm families weren't eligible to benefit from the tremendous support from the Paycheck Protection Program," Thompson said.

Low sales and a difficult planting season contributed to these struggles. Thompson has introduced a federal bipartisan bill to change the rules of the program that previously kept farmers from qualifying for the loans.

U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT' Thompson (R-PA) on June 11 introduced a bipartisan bill that would make Medicare payments permanent for any telehealth services furnished by federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics.

Specifically, Rep. Thompson sponsored the Helping Ensure Access to Local TeleHealth (HEALTH) Act of 2020, H.R. 7187, with lead cosponsor U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-NC) to codify Medicare reimbursement for community health centers and rural health clinics for telehealth services.

U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson and other lawmakers on Thursday introduced bipartisan legislation to expand access to Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans for farmers and ranchers.

The PPP was created by Congress under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act in order to assist small businesses keep employees on payroll and cover other business-related expenses, helping them weather the economic damages caused by COVID-19.
