Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson has announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded $72,000 to Community Ambulance Service (CAS) in Franklin, Venango County. Thompson was in Franklin today to discuss current emergency operations and how the CAS Franklin will utilize the funding, which had been awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program (AFG).

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today voted to support H.R. 1230, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act. H.R. 1230, cosponsored by Thompson, requires the Secretary of the Interior to conduct oil and natural gas lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Virginia that have been delayed or cancelled by the Obama Administration. The measure passed the House today with a bipartisan majority of votes, 266-149. Thompson issued the following statement after final passage:

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced plans for a Veterans Outreach Week consisting of events to offer local area Veterans direct contact with and support from federal agencies through a series of informational seminars and town hall meetings in locations across the Fifth District. Thompson will host the outreach events along with representatives from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Earlier this week on the House floor, I recognized the Coudersport Moon Tree located in Potter County, PA. The Coudersport Moon Tree was among dozens of seedlings on board Apollo 14 in 1971 as part of a joint project with NASA and the US Forest Service, known as the "Moon Trees," to see whether space flight affected seeds' ability to sprout. The resulting seedlings were planted throughout the United States as a tribute to the Apollo program. The Coudersport Sycamore, among numerous others, was reported as missing by NASA.

A recent letter to the editor, “New era for Medicare, Medicaid,” appearing in the Centre Daily Times on April 18, claimed Republicans “voted to end Medicare and Medicaid as we know them.” This quote, taken directly from the President’s speech on April 15th, could not be further from the truth. According to FactCheck.org, a University of Pennsylvania - Annenberg Public Policy Project, the President went too far in his critique of the Republican plan. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has also stated that unless we refine these programs, Medicare will become insolvent in 2022.
