Washington, D.C. – The U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce yesterday held a full committee hearing to review the Administration’s Fiscal Year 2012 budget request for the Department of Education. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan served as the hearing witness, offering testimony and detailing the Administration’s budget request.

Washington, D.C. -- John “Jack” Mellgard, of Clearfield County, will soon join the midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy, according to U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, who nominated him. John is the son of Reverend and Mrs. J. Robert Mellgard.
“Jack is supremely qualified for this appointment, and it is a great honor to have nominated him to the U.S. Naval Academy,” said Thompson. “Jack will join the talented men and women who have the honor of serving in our nation’s service academies.”

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today voted in support of House Amendment (H. AMDT.) # 214, a measure to prohibit funds for the Department of Education Regulations on Gainful Employment. The Department of Education’s Gainful Employment regulations are a controversial regulatory process that would impose arbitrary requirements on proprietary schools, deny access to students and undermine the strength of the American workforce.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today voted in support of H. Res. 72, a resolution directing House committees to inventory and review existing, pending, and proposed regulations and orders from agencies of the Federal Government, with respect to their effect on jobs and economic growth. The resolution passed the full House of Representatives by a vote of 391-28. Thompson issued the following statement upon final passage:
Washington, D.C.—Nathan Weber, 19, of Lycoming County, will soon join the cadets at the U.S. Military Academy, according to U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, who nominated him. Nathan is the son of William and Rae Weber.
“Nathan excelled in his studies and served his community and colleagues well, and it is an honor to congratulate him on his acceptance to West Point,” said Thompson. “Weber will be a superb cadet and his talents and dedication will be a tremendous asset for our Armed Services.”
