Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson participated in two of the first congressional oversight hearings of the 112th Congress under the new Republican-led majority. Thompson’s first hearing with the House Education & Workforce Committee, entitled “State of the American Workforce,” focused on the Administration’s efforts to grow the economy and support job creation. Among the witnesses was Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia.
Washington, D.C. —This evening, Congressman Thompson will host Centre County Commissioner, Steve Dershem, as his honored guest for the President’s State of the Union address. Preceding the speech, the two met to discuss the impacts of federal regulations upon localities and areas of mutual responsibility with regard to economic growth in Centre County and the Commonwealth. Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today learned he has been appointed to the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources of the House Natural Resources Committee. This appointment follows Thompson’s recent appointment to the full House Natural Resources Committee and reappointment to the full House Agriculture and Education & Labor Committees.
Washington, D.C.— U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today voted in favor of repealing the flawed health care reform bill, originally passed in March of 2009. The final vote count on H.R. 2 was 245-189 in favor of passage. Thompson offered the following statement on the House Floor during today’s debate:

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R- Howard, today announced he has hired Parish Braden as his new communications director. Braden will replace Tina Kreisher, who is retiring.
“Parish has worked on Capitol Hill for a Member of Congress from Maryland, and has experience with Pennsylvania from serving as the Northeast Regional Press Secretary for the Republican National Committee,” said Thompson. “He will be an experienced and knowledgeable addition to the staff serving the people of the Fifth Congressional District.”
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today took the oath of office as a Member of the 112th Congress. Vowing to put great focus on deficit reduction, Thompson said:
“The Congress and the Administration under President Barack Obama has over the last three fiscal years borrowed about $3.7 trillion. That is more than the entire accumulated national deficit for the first 225 years of U.S. history.

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today learned from House Agriculture Committee Chairman-Elect Frank Lucas that he will lead the Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy & Forestry for the upcoming 112th Congress, beginning January 5th, 2011.
Last week, Thompson was made aware, that in total he will have three committee assignments for the 112th Congress. He had retained seats on the House Agriculture and the House Education & Labor Committees, in addition to a new appointment on the House Natural Resources Committee.
Washington, D.C.— Just before midnight U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson voted in favor of the compromise tax package that will stop looming tax increases from taking effect January 1st. The bill passed the Senate earlier in the week and the House passed it late tonight by a vote of 277-148. The following is Thompson’s statement on his vote:
