Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today announced that the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $99,000 in grant funding to Downtown Lock Haven Inc. (DLH) in Clinton County. The grant was awarded through USDA’s Rural Development Enterprise Grant (RBEG) program, which provides grants for local projects that finance and facilitate development of small and emerging rural businesses.

On June 7, 2011, history was made at the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology (CPI). Two young ladies – Tricia Reich and Anna Krishak – graduated from their Automotive Technology Program at the highest level possible offered by CPI. These non-traditional students in the Automotive Technology program earned their diploma along with state, national, and worldwide certifications in their field of study.

With the 112th Congress well under way, the U.S. House has quickly tackled some major issues and brought with it a long-needed system of checks-and-balances on the Administration and runaway government. Finally, we're beginning to see a real focus on the issues that matter most: ending the tax and spend culture in Washington, while working to foster real job creation, not simply throwing hard earned taxpayer dollars at the problem and hoping that it will stick.

Earlier today, I joined Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (TX-26) on the House floor for a discussion on the current and future challenges America faces with the rising cost of health care. Rep. Burgess and I serve as the co-chairs for the Congressional Healthcare Caucus, a caucus dedicated to educating other Members of Congress and fellow Americans on the issues surrounding health care policy. Much of our discussion focused on the recently released Medicare Trustees Report, which shows that Medicare will become insolvent even sooner than expected.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Obama Administration’s Department of Education issued the “gainful employment” regulation, a controversial policy that would impose arbitrary requirements on proprietary schools and deny access to career college students, particularly minority and low income students. There has been growing bipartisan opposition to the regulation, most recently with passage of a measure in the U.S. House of Representatives that would have prohibited funds from being used by the Department of Education for the purposes of implementing the rules.

Washington, D.C. – Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson issued the following statement on Monday night after the House overwhelmingly defeated a request from President Obama to raise the nation’s debt ceiling without any spending cuts or budget reforms. Thompson voted to oppose the measure, H.R. 1954, which failed to pass the House by a vote of 318 - 97.
