Washington, DC –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) today attended the first major address of House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) at the Library of Congress. In the address Ryan outlined his vision for the House in 2016, during a week that included bipartisan approval of legislation to reform elementary and secondary education, replacing the contentious No Child Left Behind, and a $300 billion, five-year reauthorization of surface transportation programs.

Following Speaker Ryan’s address, Thompson offered the following statement:

Washington, DC –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) today voted in favor of H.R. 22, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, which passed by a vote of 359 to 65 and provides for the long-term authorization of the surface transportation law, helping improve our nation’s roads, bridges and public transit systems.

Washington, DC –Today, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) voted in favor the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015, which passed the House with bipartisan support. A senior member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, Thompson was appointed by Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, to serve on the committee responsible for settling the differences between the House and Senate versions of replacing No Child Left Behind, the federal law governing elementary and secondary education.

Washington, DC –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will accept applications for the Fiscal Year 2015 Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) program, starting on Monday, Dec. 7, and ending on Friday, Jan. 15.

“The Assistance to Firefighter Grant program is vital to emergency response teams and will improve overall public safety,” Thompson said. “I encourage eligible applicants to begin the application process as soon as possible and use my office as a resource along the way.”

Washington, DC –S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) today voted in favor of H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act. The measure passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 289-137. It would temporarily suspend the program allowing Syrian and Iraqi refugees into the United States until an adequate screening program is in place to certify each individual does not pose a national security risk.

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) will participate in a roundtable discussion, “Federal Health Care Policy: Stakeholder Perspectives and Recommendations,” with health care providers on Monday, Nov. 23, in DuBois. Discussion at the event is expected to center on the impact of federal health care policies on rural health care providers, including compliance and issues surrounding, but not solely limited to, the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and Medicaid.

Washington, DC –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) today voted in favor of H.R. 22, the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act, which provides for the long-term authorization of the surface transportation law, helping improve our nation’s roads, bridges and public transportation systems. The legislation authorizes $325 billion over the next six years and will provide more certainty when it comes to infrastructure and transportation planning.
