Washington, D.C.—The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will host a Live Webinar Workshop to help emergency responders with applications for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), according to U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard.

“With the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Application Period soon approaching, I urge interested first responders to participate in the workshop and begin preparing for the application process,” said Thompson, who is a long-time volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician.

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Business-Cooperative Service (RBS) this week announced the availability of approximately $37 million in Value-Added Producer Grants (VAPG) for Fiscal Year 2011, according to Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard. The VAPG Program, which provides economic assistance to help independent producers, farmer and rancher cooperatives and agricultural producer groups enter into value-added activities, began accepting grant applications on June 28, 2011.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today announced that the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $99,000 in grant funding to Downtown Lock Haven Inc. (DLH) in Clinton County. The grant was awarded through USDA’s Rural Development Enterprise Grant (RBEG) program, which provides grants for local projects that finance and facilitate development of small and emerging rural businesses.

Washington, D.C. – On Thursday morning, Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson delivered the following speech on the House floor regarding the necessity of enacting serious budgetary and spending reforms, in order to restore confidence in our economy and preserve America’s AAA credit rating. Washington, D.C. – Today, the Obama Administration’s Department of Education issued the “gainful employment” regulation, a controversial policy that would impose arbitrary requirements on proprietary schools and deny access to career college students, particularly minority and low income students. There has been growing bipartisan opposition to the regulation, most recently with passage of a measure in the U.S. House of Representatives that would have prohibited funds from being used by the Department of Education for the purposes of implementing the rules.

Washington, D.C. – Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson issued the following statement on Monday night after the House overwhelmingly defeated a request from President Obama to raise the nation’s debt ceiling without any spending cuts or budget reforms. Thompson voted to oppose the measure, H.R. 1954, which failed to pass the House by a vote of 318 - 97.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson’s amendment today passed the full U.S. House of Representatives by voice vote as part of H.R. 1540, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2012. The amendment is nearly identical to H.R. 1832, the Servicemembers’ Telemedicine and E-Health Portability (STEP) Act, which Thompson introduced earlier this month. The House passed H.R. 1540 by a vote of 322-96.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under the Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded $182,000, through two grants, to the Bradford Regional Airport (BFD) in McKean, PA. The FAA grants will help BFD pay for runway safety enhancements and purchase aircraft rescue and fire fighting protective equipment.
