Washington, D.C.—As a member of the Education and Labor Committee, U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today offered an amendment to the House Democrats’ health care bill to prevent the creation of a national health insurance exchange.

Washington, D.C.—U. S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, heard from the U.S. Department of Education last night that they would require Gov. Ed Rendell to resubmit the State application for federal stimulus funds to include the four universities he omitted in his current application: Pennsylvania State University, the University of Pittsburgh, Temple University and Lincoln University.

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, announced today that his district office staff will be fanning out across the Fifth Congressional District to hold constituent hours throughout the month of July. While Thompson maintains two full time district offices—Bellefonte and Titusville—he is committed to bringing constituent services to every one of the 17 counties by offering these hours in different locations across the district.

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced the Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $525,170 to Keystone Rural Health Consortia for renovation of the Cameron County Health Care Center.

“I welcome this bricks and mortar project coming to the 5th Congressional District,” said Thompson. “I understand most of the contracting will be done right in Emporium, which will be great for employment in the area. This facility hasn’t been renovated in more than 30 years and the changes will be a significant improvement.”

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced $99,000 has been awarded to the St. Mary’s Area Economic Development Corporation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Rural Business Enterprise Grant will be used for a revolving loan fund for small and emerging businesses in Elk and Cameron counties.

“With the serious unemployment we have in these counties, this is a welcome windfall,” said Thompson. “The money should help businesses and thus provide some employment.”

Washington, D.C.—Members of the Education and Labor Committee got their first and only hearing today on the Democratic Health Care Reform package. It lasted all of three hours on a health care system that may change the lives of all Americans. July 31st is the deadline for bill passage set by the majority leadership.
