Thompson Announces $317,654 for New Bus For Area Transportation Authority of North Central Pennsylvania

July 13, 2010

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $317,654 to the Area Transportation Authority of North Central Pennsylvania to purchase a new full-size bus for Monroe Township/Clarion County.

“The Federal Transit Administration awarded the funds from its Bus and Bus Facilities account, and it will allow for the purchase of the bus as well as the purchase of needed spare parts and related equipment,” said Thompson.

Michael E. Imbrogno, chief executive officer for the Area Transportation Authority, said this addition will allow them to expand services in the Clarion area. “We have three vehicles now, but when one is in the shop we often have to curtail schedules. This new 30-foot vehicle will allow us to maintain a high level of service and the students at Clarion University and the citizens of the area will be the beneficiaries.”

Imbrogno said the service is well utilized with a high passenger per hour record. “The University has taken a positive approach by offering incentives for students and others to ride,” said Imbrogno. He also thanked Monroe Township for so generously offering to be the municipal sponsor for the program.

He said two smaller vehicles have also been funded under the USDOT that helps them to provide complimentary service under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
