Washington, D.C. – Earlier today, U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) sent the following letter to the White House, withdrawing his support for the recommendation of former Penn State University football coach Joe Paterno for the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Dear Mr. President:
Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in cooperation with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS), according to U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard. The EAS test will occur on Wednesday, November 9th at 2 p.m., and will be broadcast on all radio and television stations.
On Thursday, the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy, and Forestry held a public hearing, “To review the implementation of phase II of the Chesapeake Bay TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) Watershed Implementation Plans and their impact on rural communities.” The hearing was the Subcommittee’s second oversight hearing under my leadership to examine the Chesapeake Bay TMDL, controversial federal regulations through the Environmental Protection Agency to limit nutrient and sediment runoff in the Bay Watershed.

Lock Haven, Pa. – Students from high schools throughout the Centre Region today attended a government seminar at Lock Haven University, in Lock Haven, Pa. “Government Outreach 2011” – an event hosted by U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, and sponsored by Lock Haven University – offered students of the 5th Congressional District insight into the role of the federal government and information on future career and educational opportunities.
Bradford, PA – Students from high schools throughout the Western part of the 5th Congressional District today attended a government seminar, “Government Outreach 2011,” at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. “Government Outreach 2011” – hosted by U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard,” and sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh – offered students insight into the role of the federal government and future career and education opportunities. Hundreds of students from over 16 area high schools were in attendance.
