Friend and colleague Vern Squier, President of the Chamber of Business & Industry of Centre County (CBICC), tonight joined me in attending a Joint Meeting of Congress with South Korean President, Lee Myung-bak. Before the Joint Session, which came one day after Congress passed a bill implementing the U.S.-Korean Free Trade Agreement, Vern and I discussed the importance of the agreement and its economic benefit for the Centre Region and the Commonwealth.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson tonight voted to support legislation implementing three pending free-trade agreements with Colombia (H.R. 3078), Panama (H.R. 3079), South Korea (H.R. 3080), and an extension of federal Trade Adjustment Assistance programs (H.R. 2832). All four measures passed the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (R-PA) and U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today introduced the Education for Tomorrow’s Jobs Act (H.R. 3154 and S. 1686). The Education for Tomorrow’s Jobs Act amends the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), currently known as No Child Left Behind, to promote meaningful integration of academics with career and technical education programs in order to better align secondary education with postsecondary education and career opportunities.

Earlier today from the House floor, I congratulated Penn State Professor Jack Langelaan, contributing departments and all those involved in the first place win in NASA’s Comparative Aircraft Flight Efficiency Green Flight Challenge, which took place in Charles Santa Rosa, CA, on September 25. The aviation team was lead by Dr. Langelaan and supported by Penn State engineers as well as local aviation businesses and facilities. Truly a team effort!

In October, students from high schools across the 5th Congressional District of Pennsylvania attended Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson’s “Government Outreach 2011,” a two-day seminar at the Pittsburgh University at Bradford and Lock Haven University.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today wrote the following letter to local union representatives of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). Thompson issued the letter after “informational rallies” were held by four USPS national employee union groups, including the National Rural Letter Carriers' Association, at his Bellefonte and Titusville offices. Included with the letter was a fact sheet outlining Thompson’s previous policy positions and research on several USPS reform proposals, including H.R 1351, a bill advocated by the USPS’s national unions.
