Thompson Votes to Protect Seniors
Bipartisan bill repeals Independent Payment Advisory Board
WASHINGTON – Today, the House of Representatives approved H.R. 849, the Protecting Seniors' Access to Medicare Act of 2017, which eliminates the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB).
Established under the Affordable Care Act, IPAB is an unelected 15-member board that has the power to cut Medicare spending without Congressional review, impacting the health access of more than 55 million seniors.
Upon passage of H.R. 849, Rep. Thompson issued the following statement:
“The Independent Payment Advisory Board is a bad deal for older Pennsylvanians and in no way helps to preserve or strengthen Medicare for future generations. Repealing this provision will allow Congress, not backroom bureaucrats, to make decisions when it comes to the healthcare of our nation’s seniors. I cosponsored this bill, and I am pleased the House passed this important repeal today.”
The passage of H.R. 849 is supported by 35 physician organizations.
