Thompson Votes in Favor of Rep. Paul Ryan for Speaker

October 29, 2015

Washington, DC - U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson (PA-05) today voted in favor of Paul Ryan as the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Ryan was elected with the support of 236 votes. Thompson issued the following statement on the new Speaker’s election:

“After much deliberation, I believe that Rep. Paul Ryan was the only candidate that has the skills and background needed to move legislation that will make a difference, when we are facing so many challenges as a country.

“Having served as the Chairman of the Budget and Ways and Means committees Rep. Paul Ryan has proven himself as an effective legislator. Beyond that I am confident that he has both the ability to effectively communicate and put the needs of the country above partisan politics.

“I wish Speaker Ryan the best in his new role and look forward to getting back to doing the people’s work.”
