Thompson Statement on October Jobs Report

November 2, 2018

Employee wages increasing at fastest rate since 2009, workforce training remains critical to continued growth

BELLEFONTE, Pa.U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT' Thompson issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Labor's October 2018 jobs report:

"Today's report shows that American jobs have grown and wages have expanded at the greatest rate over the past decade. The U.S. added more than 250,000 jobs in October, while many employers admit challenges to finding employees with the skills they need.

"This is tremendous news, but it also continues to show the importance of a highly-skilled workforce to meet modern employment demands. This why I continue to advocate for career and technical education for learners of all ages. As the Strengthening Career & Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, which was signed into law in July, is further implemented we need to ensure that workers are obtaining the skills they need to remain competitive.

"I remain committed to supporting pro-growth policies that will unleash the true potential of America's workforce and our national economy. This growth can be attributed to unprecedented reforms such as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and efforts to repeal burdensome and ineffective regulations. We must ensure Americans have the right skillsets to take advantage of this booming economy and continue to pave the way to new jobs and opportunities."
