Thompson Marches for Life with Fifth District Residents

January 22, 2009

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-Howard, joined hundreds of Fifth District residents who made the journey to Washington to celebrate life and participate in the 36th Annual March for Life. Thompson issued the following statement:

“Today, as hundreds of thousands of Americans converge on Washington to celebrate the most precious gift God has given us and the one our Founding Fathers placed first, and most important – the right to life – my commitment to protecting the most vulnerable is only strengthened.

“As a patient advocate, church deacon, and scoutmaster, I have had the privilege to interact with thousands of young people who will one day serve as our future leaders. It is that very opportunity that I have enjoyed, as has everyone across the district, that I believe should be provided to the unborn.

“While today marks a dark day in our nation’s history, there is hope and promise on the horizon. In record numbers, young people are choosing life and opportunity. Abortions are at a 20 year low. The life movement is as strong today, as ever before, and I look forward to advocating on behalf of policies that strengthen families and opportunity, not diminish them.”

In his commitment to defending the unborn, Congressman Thompson sent a letter to President Obama urging him to end his support of the so-called “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA). This proposal will overturn virtually every pro-life law nationwide – including laws that prohibit the use of federal dollars to perform abortions.
