Thompson Announces Application Period for Assistance to Firefighters Grants

August 8, 2011

Washington, D.C. – The application period for the Fiscal Year 2011 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) Program will begin next week, running from August 15, 2011 at 8:00am to September 09, 2011 at 5:00pm, according to Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard.

“These are competitive grants that address public safety and protect our emergency responders from fire-related hazards,” said Thompson, a long-time volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician.

The primary goal of the AFG Program, which is administered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical services organizations.

“With grant guidance for 2011 now available and the application period soon-approaching, I urge potential applicants to begin preparing for the application process,” Thompson added.

In preparation, FEMA today released updated grant guidance information, available at https://www.fema.gov/firegrants/afggrants/index.shtm, and a “Get Ready Guide,” available at https://www.fema.gov/pdf/firegrants/Get_Ready_Guide.pdf, to assists 2011 applicants.
