Statement on the “Keep Your Health Plan Act,” Measure Passes House with Bipartisan Support

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today voted to support H.R. 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act of 2013, which allows health plans currently available on the individual market to continue next year, providing Americans the opportunity to continue to enroll in those plans without the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) individual mandate penalty. The measure passed by a vote of 261-157.

“President Obama repeatedly stated that if the American people liked their current health plans, they could keep them,” stated Thompson. “The lackluster roll out and website crashes will probably disappear over time, but the insurance cancellations and unbearable cost increases are substantial, long lasting and adversely impacting people’s lives.”

“Hundreds of constituents from across the Fifth District have received notices that their current policies have become more expensive or, worse, are now cancelled entirely as a result of this law,” added Thompson. “The President has offered little assurance that he can save the plans that he promised would not be cancelled; his administration appears incapable of correcting the law’s growing number of flaws.”

“We have a responsibility to prevent even more economic harm from being imposed upon hard working Americans,” Thompson said. “Today’s vote was a strong step forward in this effort. I commend my colleagues on both sides of the aisle who joined in passing the Keep Your Health Plan Act.”
