Congressman Glenn GT Thompson, incoming GOP leader of the House Ag Committee, says it's critical that lawmakers pass a coronavirus relief bill soon.
"Our farmers and ranchers are still needing assistance and so are our agriculture businesses," he says. Thompson was elected ranking member Dec. 2. The full House GOP Conference ratified the decision Dec. 3. He is succeeding the retiring Rep. Mike Conway (R-Texas).
"The challenges ahead of us are considerable, but we will continue to put farm families first and ensure our country has the most safe and affordable food supply chain on the planet," said Thompson, who was elected in 2008.

U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.) has been named the top Republican on the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, his office announced in a statement.
Thompson, 61, was elected by his peers to the position Wednesday night. He represents the commonwealth's 15th Congressional District, which covers a large portion of rural Pennsylvania, stretching from Warren County to Centre County.
