St. Francis University is trying to help our veterans get back to work more easily.
The university's Knee Center for the Study of Occupational Regulation received the Veterans Accelerated Learning for Licensed Occupations Project, or VALLO, Grant through the U.S. Department of Labor.
The $1M grant will help the university launch the new Veterans Accelerated Learning Program, or VALP.
"It's meant to make the education system more efficient and be able to meet our work force needs and honor our veterans with what they've done," Congressman GT Thompson said.
Healthcare professionals met at St. Francis University on Monday to discuss the future of rural health innovations through telemedicine.
Congressman GT Thompson was also there as representatives from Highmark and UPMC explained how many patients can now skype with their primary care providers at any time.
This advancement mainly helps those in places where the nearest doctor or emergency room is far away.
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross has announced that the department's Economic Development Administration is awarding a $2 million grant to the Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation to help construct a new River's Landing facility to accommodate small business tenants, according to a press release.
The grant will be matched with $2.28 million in state and local funds, and is expected to help create 50 jobs and generate $10 million in private investment.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) was recently awarded a $8,409,444 Automated Driving System Demonstration Grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation, to test the safe integration of automated driving systems within work zones.
In May of 2019, Thompson was joined by nine Members of the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation in expressing their support of PennDOT's grant application to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao (Letter Attached).
Washington, DC – Congressman Glenn ‘GT' Thompson (PA-15) voted in favor of H.R. 4378, a short-term appropriations bill known as a continuing resolution, which will fund government operations at Fiscal Year 2019 levels beyond the beginning of Fiscal Year 2020 (October 1, 2019) and for seven weeks, through November 21, 2019.
The CR passed the House this afternoon with a vote of 301-123. Upon passage of H.R. 4378, Congressman Thompson issued the following statement:

Those honored and their awards were: Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard, advocacy; Genetti Hotel, SureStay Collection by Best Western, corporate; Vough Acres, food donor; Marsha E. Goldstein, individual philanthropist; Geisinger, innovation and Joe Loehr, individual volunteer and the MisChiefs, an all-female volunteer group led by local resident Donna Bastian.
"I rise today to recognize the community development and revitalization efforts of Clarion, Pennsylvania," Thompson said in the September 10, 2019 issue.
"Recently (July 22), I was back in my district, touring Clarion's growing downtown region, meeting with small business owners and community leaders, and the progress and growth that I saw were truly exciting."
The celebration during Thompson's visit was focused on financing for a business and the framework that allows more needed housing for the homeless.
