Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $238,491 to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford through a competitive grant process for Student Support Services (SSS). The grant is expected to cover the period of September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2011 and is expected to be continued for a total of five years and more than a million dollars.
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard today announced October 1, 2010, is the deadline for high school seniors to apply for nomination through the Bellefonte District Office for acceptance into one of the four military academies for the year 2011.

Washington, D.C.—The House Agriculture Committee today passed H.R 5509, The Chesapeake Bay Restoration and Improvement Act. U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, is a cosponsor of the legislation and voted in favor of it. The bill essentially codifies the existing agreements among the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and Washington, D.C., to clean up the Bay.
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced that the Federal Transit Administration under the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $634,000 grant to the Area Transportation Authority of North Central Pennsylvania (ATA) to replace ten vehicles.
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today was notified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that Secretary Thomas J. Vilsack has agreed that there were sufficient production losses in Clarion, Venango, and Warren Counties to warrant a disaster designation. The designation was based on losses that occurred due to a late season frost in the second week of May, 2010.
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced the U. S. Department of Labor has awarded $407,137 in YouthBuild funds to the Lycoming-Clinton Counties Commission for Community Action (STEP), Inc.
“Across the country the Labor Department has issued almost $67 million in these grants, which assist out-of-school youth to get their diplomas or GEDs (General Education Diploma) while providing job training in the construction industry,” said Thompson. “This program can help youth get into a job that can support them for a lifetime.”
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $317,654 to the Area Transportation Authority of North Central Pennsylvania to purchase a new full-size bus for Monroe Township/Clarion County.
“The Federal Transit Administration awarded the funds from its Bus and Bus Facilities account, and it will allow for the purchase of the bus as well as the purchase of needed spare parts and related equipment,” said Thompson.
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a two-year grant of $373,704 for the integration of schools and mental health systems to the State College Area School District.
“This is a unique program that seeks to increase student access to quality mental health care by developing programs to link local school systems with the local mental health system,” said Thompson.
Washington, D.C.—Back in January 1985, Boris Weisfeiler, a mathematics professor at Penn State, disappeared during a hiking trip in Chile near the controversial colony known as Colonia Dignidad. Today, his is the only case of a missing U.S. citizen from the Pinochet-era for which there has never been a full accounting of the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
