Earlier today, I joined hundreds of Fifth District residents in Washington to celebrate life and participate in the 39th Annual March for Life. Following the official rally, members of Pennsylvania’s congressional delegation hosted a reception for Commonwealth residents traveling to Washington, D.C., for the event. Thank you to Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN) – the latest co-sponsor of the ACE (All Children are Equal) Act! I introduced the ACE Act in July, 2011. Rep. Roe is also the eighth member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, the committee of jurisdiction for this legislation, to offer their support. Since the shocking revelations at Penn State University became public, mortifying our community, the Commonwealth and Nation, my family and I continue to keep our thoughts and prayers with the Penn State community, especially those directly impacted by these tragic developments.
Moving forward, I have confidence the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office will shed additional light on the matter and ensure that justice is served. In the meantime, as a community, we must continue the healing process.
On Thursday, the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy, and Forestry held a public hearing, “To review the implementation of phase II of the Chesapeake Bay TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) Watershed Implementation Plans and their impact on rural communities.” The hearing was the Subcommittee’s second oversight hearing under my leadership to examine the Chesapeake Bay TMDL, controversial federal regulations through the Environmental Protection Agency to limit nutrient and sediment runoff in the Bay Watershed.
This week, I delivered three separate floor speeches, outlining 17 House-passed jobs bills that are currently awaiting action in the Senate. The 3rd speech was delivered today, following passage of H.R.
