Washington, D.C.—A measure to congratulate Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) on its continued success in support of the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, H. Res. 1112, passed the U.S. House of Representatives today by voice vote. It was introduced by U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard.
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced Nicholas Fink, 17, of Oil City, has accepted a fully qualified appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. He is the son of John and Erin Fink.
“One of the honors of serving the 5th District is having a role in helping outstanding young men and women apply to the service academies,” said Thompson. “Nicholas has shown his qualifications for becoming part of the Long Grey Line at West Point, and I believe he will become an excellent officer and leader.”
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced that Bryan R. Schmidt, 17, of State College, has accepted a fully qualified appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Bryan is the son of Robert and Stephanie Schmidt.
“It is a great pleasure to have the honor of nominating outstanding young men and women to the service academies,” said Thompson. “Bryan has excelled both academically and in sports at State College Area High School and has a balanced outlook that will serve him well at the Naval Academy.”
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced that Eugene H. Lefebvre, III, 18, of Titusville, has accepted a fully qualified appointment for admission to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Eugene is the son of Eugene II and Jennifer Lefebvre.
“It is a great pleasure to have the honor of nominating outstanding young men and women to the service academies,” said Thompson. “Eugene is an excellent student and has a variety of interests that will serve him well as he works toward his goals at the Academy.”
Washington, D.C.—At a hearing today in the House Education and Labor Committee, U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, questioned U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, on President Obama’s Executive Order encouraging Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) for federal contracts and asked why the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has imposed them when going to bid.
Washington, D.C.—Today U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, wrote to Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett to ask him to investigate claims in Ralph M. Bailets’ suit against the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), in which he alleges corruption and waste.
Washington, D.C.—Anthony D. Rombold, 19, of Summerville in Jefferson County, will soon join the cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, according to U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, who nominated him. Anthony is the son of Rick and Celeste Rombold.
“One of the greatest pleasures of my position is the honor of nominating outstanding young men and women to the service academies,” said Thomspon. “Anthony excels in everything he attempts and will be a huge asset to the Academy and an exemplary officer.”
Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today took part in a forum that examined the “Culture of Favoritism” the Obama administration has shown toward labor unions.
Thompson is a member of the Education and Labor Committee. The Committee Republicans put together the forum to examine actions taken and promises made by the Administration to reward special interests at the expense of American workers and our struggling economy.

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today took his resolution honoring the Penn State women’s volleyball team on winning the 2009 NCAA Division I national championship, to the floor of the House of Representatives where it passed by unanimous consent.
Thompson told the House: “Exactly one month ago today the Pennsylvania State University Women’s volleyball team staged a stunning come-from-behind victory against the University of Texas lady Longhorns and took home their third consecutive NCAA national championship.”
