Thompson Supports Repeal of Affordable Care Act

January 6, 2016

Today, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) voted in favor of H.R. H.R. 3762, theRestoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act, which repeals the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. The bill passed using the reconciliation process, a procedure included in the budget resolution that tasked committees to create budgetary savings and limited debate in the Senate to 20 hours, warding off a filibuster.

Thompson, a former healthcare professional, issued the following statement upon passage:

“For the first time, Congress will be sending a bill to the President that fully repeals Obamacare. Today’s vote will reduce the federal deficit by more than half a trillion dollars, making good on a promise to taxpayers. President Obama will be forced to use his mighty pen to either sign or veto his horrible healthcare law, which has driven up costs for hard working families, seniors and small businesses. Regardless of the President’s actions, I remain committed to bringing smart, market-based solutions to our nation’s healthcare system that increase access, affordability, quality of care, and the patient-physician relationship.”
