Thompson Supports Protecting American Energy Production
House passes 6 bills to combat the radical climate agenda
WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson this week supported six bills on the House floor that would result in more affordable energy for Pennsylvanians. Republicans are continuing to lead on solutions that will lower energy costs, reduce emissions, and secure American energy leadership. Despite the Biden Administration and Governor Shapiro’s consistent attacks on U.S. energy production, Rep. Thompson continues to defend Pennsylvania’s right to produce energy.
“I am proud to represent a district, and come from a state, that plays such a large role in domestic energy production,” Rep. Thompson said. “Without the energy production of my district and others in rural America, our cities would wake up cold, dark, and hungry. While President Biden and Governor Shapiro continue to stifle our energy independence, I will continue to support legislation that recognizes America’s true energy potential and protects domestic production, especially in Pennsylvania.”
The following legislation was passed this week:
- H. Con. Res. 86 –This resolution expresses the sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to American families and businesses. A federal or state carbon tax would send Pennsylvanians energy bills, grocery bills, and everyday necessities through the roof.
- H. Res. 987 Denouncing the harmful, anti-American energy policies of the Biden Administration – This resolution reinforces the harm and negative impacts of President Biden’s anti-energy policies. The United States has an abundance of clean-burning natural gas, especially in Pennsylvania – the second largest producer of natural gas in the U.S. Unleashing domestic energy production only adds certainty to the U.S. energy supply.
- H.R. 1121 – Protecting American Energy Production Act – This bill would prevent any president from unilaterally banning the practice of fracking. It also expresses the sense of Congress that states on state and private land should regulate fracking.
- H.R. 6009 – Restoring American Energy Dominance Act – This bill nullifies the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) proposed rule entitled "Fluid Mineral Leases and Leasing Process," which would significantly restrict and increase costs for oil and gas production on federal lands. These costs would directly impact consumers who are already facing record costs for energy consumption.
- H.R. 1023 – Cutting Green Corruption and Taxes Act – This legislation would repeal the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund within the EPA, preventing unelected bureaucrats from forcing their climate agenda on the American people without any oversight or accountability. This bill also strikes the Natural Gas Tax imposed by President Biden in the Inflation ‘Expansion’ Act, which would decimate Pennsylvania’s energy economy and raise prices for consumers.
- H.R. 7023 - Creating Confidence in Clean Water Permitting Act – This bill is a set of commonsense reforms to permitting processes for energy producers, the agriculture industry, builders, and water utilities under the Clean Water Act (CWA). These reforms will reduce burdensome regulatory requirements, protect against frivolous lawsuits, and increase transparency while ensuring clean water protection.
