Press Release

Washington, D.C.—U.S Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced that the Energy and Water Appropriations measure contains $100,000 for the Beaver Creek Reservoir in Clarion County.

The funding bill for energy and water projects for fiscal year 2010 passed the House today by a vote of  239 to 185.  But the measure must still be approved by the Senate before it can be signed into law.

“This Corps of Engineers’ reservoir will provide a major water source that will bring recreational opportunities and environmental education to the area, as it will include an Environmental Center/Eco Lodge,” said Thompson.  “Some $2.5 million has already been invested in the project and it is shovel-ready.  This additional funding will move the project closer to construction.”

Clarion County along with the Alliance for Wildlife, owns more than 800 acres with ponds, aquatic and avian habitat.  The project has an educational center that hosts 10 school districts and students from Clarion University.  Project design, land acquisition, plantings and wetland development are complete, as are current designs for the proposed Environmental Center/Eco Lodge.
