Thompson Remarks on State of the Union; Hosts Centre County Commissioner as Honored Guest

January 25, 2011

Washington, D.C. —This evening, Congressman Thompson will host Centre County Commissioner, Steve Dershem, as his honored guest for the President’s State of the Union address. Preceding the speech, the two met to discuss the impacts of federal regulations upon localities and areas of mutual responsibility with regard to economic growth in Centre County and the Commonwealth. Thompson released the following statement on tonight’s address:

“The House has already voted in order to make good on the promise to reel in government spending earlier today. We need to get this country on a sound path to tackle the outrageous debt and plan for economic growth. While families and businesses in the 5th District have been forced to tighten their belts, it’s long overdue for Washington to follow suit. During tonight’s speech, I hope the President clearly outlines his Administration’s plan to work with Congress in order to reduce spending and create a long-term plan for prosperity.”

Earlier today, U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson voted in favor of H. Res 38, a resolution reducing non-security, discretionary spending to Fiscal Year 2008 levels. The bill passed the House this afternoon by a vote of 256-165.
