Thompson: PennDOT’s Bridge Tolling Continues to Lack Transparency

November 22, 2021

Calls upon PennDOT to release documents pertaining to meetings with Federal Highway Administration

WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Representative Glenn "GT" Thompson released the following statement after the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's (PennDOT) virtual briefing for public officials on the I-80 North Fork bridges tolling project in Pennsylvania's 15th Congressional District:

"PennDOT's virtual briefing for public officials was nothing more than a ‘checked box' as they continue to move towards tolling nine major bridges throughout the Commonwealth. During the briefing, PennDOT indicated that biweekly meetings have been occurring with the Federal Highway Administration on this issue for the past six months. This is the first PennDOT has publicly admitted engagement with the federal government over their tolling plan. As a result, I am calling upon PennDOT to make the notes of these meetings available, so the public has more information about what is being discussed behind closed doors. The lack of transparency at PennDOT continues to point to the larger issue at hand: they're hellbent on tolling, facts be damned. This is no way to run a public agency."
