Thompson Issues Statement on Passage of Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act

March 26, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) issued this statement following passage of H.R. 2, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act:

“Today, the House passed a historic, bipartisan bill that will put an end to the flawed Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate and extend the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

For more than a decade, Congress has continually used a band-aid to address the Sustainable Growth Rate, rather than offering permanent reforms.

Having served in a non-profit healthcare setting for nearly three decades, I experienced first-hand the uncertainty and anxiety that patients and their providers experience annually, wondering if draconian cuts to reimbursements would occur.

This bipartisan, permanent, solution will replace the Sustainable Growth Rate with a more stable system that will ensure our seniors and children do not lose access to their healthcare providers.

This legislation is by no means perfect, but is a move in the right direction for children, seniors and our medical providers.”

The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 392 to 37.

Shortly after the House passed the legislation, Congressman Thompson took to the House Floor to speak in support of this historic legislation.
