“Jack is supremely qualified for this appointment, and it is a great honor to have nominated him to the U.S. Naval Academy,” said Thompson. “Jack will join the talented men and women who have the honor of serving in our nation’s service academies.”
Mellgard received a cumulative GPA of 9.489 and ranked 5th in the 2011 graduating class at Clearfield Area High School. John completed every AP course available while at Clearfield Area High School and was nominated to the National Spanish Honor Society.

John also served as a Leader and Organizer for the Youth Group at Clearfield Presbyterian Church.
“He’s worked tremendously hard in his studies and athletics, and is fit to serve our Armed Forces,” said Thompson. “I am proud to have supported his nomination and congratulate his acceptance to the U.S. Naval Academy.”
