Thompson Announces U.S. Department of Education Award to Lock Haven University

August 12, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) announced the United States Department of Education has awarded $284,753 to Lock Haven University through a grant process for the Student Support Services (SSS) Program for Fiscal Year 2015. The award, beginning Sept. 1, is anticipated to continue for five years, totaling more than $1.4 million.

“This funding is essential in helping provide academic support and services for low-income, first-generation and disabled students,” Thompson, who serves on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, said. “These support programs ensure students have the support they need from enrollment through graduation.”

“The TRIO Student Support Services grants have been invaluable in helping Lock Haven University provide access to excellence for deserving students in the Commonwealth who can achieve their dream of a college degree with a little additional assistance,” said Lock Haven University President Michael Fiorentino Jr. “I am pleased that our program was funded for another cycle and congratulate the faculty and staff in the program on their good work.”

The SSS Program at Lock Haven University will use the funds to support 230 students. Those services include financial aid information, graduate and professional school counseling, personal coaching and other techniques designed to enhance student performance.
