Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, announced today that Matthew T. Matthew is the son of Judy and Thomas Galsick and currently is a senior at Johnsonburg Area High School.

“I’m proud to make this announcement,” said Thompson. “Young men and women of Matthew’s stature signal to me that the future of our military is in capable hands. The leadership training, education and skills he will learn at the Air Force Academy will be second to none. I am confident in his ability to become a fine Air Force officer.”

Galsick completed a summer seminar at the U.S. Air Force Academy last June and is working to obtain his pilot’s license as a member of the Elk County Flyers Club. He maintains a 4.01 grade point average and ranks first in his class of 58 students. Galsick is chapter president of his high school’s National Honor Society and is a member of Stand Tall, a club that promotes an alcohol and drug free lifestyle.

He is a member of the Fox Township Rod and Gun Club, the Kane Rod and Gun Club and is a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. Since 2004, Galsick has worked at the family’s farm and at the Kane Fish and Game Club/Ridgway Rifle Club.

Galsick is a varsity letter winner in track and field and football and also wrestled and was in weight lifting. He has received a number of awards including a High School Academic Letter Award and a Most Outstanding award in the fields of Earth and Space, Spanish III, Chemistry I and English II. He received last year the American Chemical Society Penn York Section Excellence in Chemistry Award.

“Matthew’s diverse high school career will serve him well at the Academy. His commitment to academic achievement and athletic excellence are traits that will allow him to compete with the best and the brightest students at the Air Force Academy. I am grateful for his willingness to serve and wish him all the best as he begins his road to military service,” said Thompson.
