Thompson Announces Kersey Student Will Attend Air Force Academy

Washington, DC—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’  Thompson, R-Howard, today announced Cory A. Smith of Kersey has accepted a fully qualified appointment to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy  in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Cory is the son of Craig and Suzanne Smith and is currently a senior at St. Marys Area High School. 

“It is always a pleasure for me to see an Eagle Scout continue to soar,” said Thompson, a 30-year scoutmaster.  “Cory is a member of Boy Scout Troop 94, became an Eagle Scout last March, and is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society.   The values and skills he learned in his years in scouting will serve him well at the Academy.”

Maintaining a 3.65 grade point average, Cory has also been part of the competitive marching band and Indoor Drumline at his high school.  He is a member of the Health Occupation Students of America, which works to increase health awareness in the community.

“Young men and women like Cory hold the future of the U.S. military.  And I am proud to add Cory to the ranks of the best and the brightest at the Air Force Academy.    We are all grateful for his willingness to serve and wish him well as he becomes a cadet,” said Thompson.

Cory’s paternal grandparents are William and Kathy Smith of St. Marys and his maternal grandparents are Milton and Mary Ellen Badeau of Kersey.
