Thompson Announces Grant for Centre County Youth Service Bureau

Washington, DC – Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) today announced the award of $200,000 to the Centre County Youth Service Bureau from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funding will allow the bureau to continue to operate its emergency shelter at all hours of the day.

“The services provided by the Centre County Youth Service Bureau are essential for so many children and families,” Thompson said. “The emergency shelter, in particular, provides a safe place for youth at a very difficult time of their lives. They should know the shelter is a safe place to turn.”

The Centre County Youth Service Bureau was founded in 1968. The organization helps children, youth and families through a variety of community-based, family-based and residential programs. The emergency shelter assists youth ages 12-17 who are homeless, runaways or are at risk for either of those conditions due to difficult circumstances at home.

“Not only will this grant allow us to continue to operate the shelter 24 hours per day, but it will also go toward counseling to help kids and families safely stay together,” said Centre County Youth Service Bureau CEO Andrea Boyles. “When kids cannot go home, our team will find a safe, permanent option for them.”
