February 12, 2010

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced that Eugene H. Lefebvre, III, 18, of Titusville, has accepted a fully qualified appointment for admission to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Eugene is the son of Eugene II and Jennifer Lefebvre.

“It is a great pleasure to have the honor of nominating outstanding young men and women to the service academies,” said Thompson. “Eugene is an excellent student and has a variety of interests that will serve him well as he works toward his goals at the Academy.”

Lefebvre ranks 16th out of 172 seniors at Titusville High School with a grade point average of 3.92. He has achieved the rank of Cadet Senior Master Sergeant with the Civil Air Patrol and has flown solo with the program. He lettered in track and field and cross country and played junior varsity football.

Lefebvre was a math tutor and an Ignition Counselor—a program to help freshmen adjust to high school. He is a Key Club member and participated in the Venango County 4-H program. Through his high school’s gifted program, he has participated in various competitions such as the Equations Team, Mock UN and Academic Challenges. He is a member of his church’s youth group and was a camp counselor for the Wilderness Quest Camp for 6th grade students.

“Eugene’s first love seems to be flying and he is very interested in aerospace engineering,” said Thompson. “He has chosen the right school for aerospace and will combine his academic and leadership skills to become an excellent officer.”

His paternal grandparents are Eugene and Alice Lefebvre of Lancaster, Massachusetts, and his maternal grandparents are Ted and Vickie Garfield of Titusville.
