Thompson Announces Appointment of James D. Nuhfer to the U.S. Air Force Academy
WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today announced that Mr. James D. Nuhfer of Edinboro, Pa. has accepted a fully-qualified appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
James is a 2017 graduate of General McLane High School, and he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David and Sandy Nuhfer of Edinboro. After high school, James enlisted in the Air Force and was accepted into the U.S. Air Force Preparatory School.
“James has excelled in the classroom, on the playing field and in service to his community,” Rep. Thompson said. “All of the individuals who wrote letters of recommendation in support of James’ application commented on his good character and leadership qualities. They said he is a natural leader who is humbled, disciplined and hard-working. I know that these attributes will serve him well at the academy, and it is an honor to nominate Mr. Nuhfer. I wish him the best of luck at the U.S. Air Force Academy.”
While at General McLane High School, James was on the wrestling and football teams, and he also participated in JETS, the Junior Engineering Technical Society. JETS is an eight-person, teacher-recommended academic team that competes on local, state and national levels. James also volunteered as a guidance counselor at Vacation Bible School and with the Relay for Life program.
Mr. Nuhfer’s paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Jaqueline Nuhfer of Edinboro, Pa., and his maternal grandmother is Ms. Bonnie Smith of Meadville, Pa.
