Thompson Announces $627,000 for Williamsport Regional Airport

May 29, 2009

Washington, DC—U. S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $627,000 to the Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority to extend a taxiway.

The funds will be used to complete a 700-foot section of taxiway bravo to connect with runway 27. It will include the placement of base and sub-base materials, drainage, lighting and marking.

“This grant will enable the final phase of this project,” said Thompson. “It is a welcome improvement that will facilitate the ground movements of aircraft.”

Thomas Hart, Airport Director, said, “This project will allow air traffic controllers to provide safer movement for airplanes on the ground and allow multiple ground operations at one time. While this is a separate project, it is tied into the runway extension that will both enhance safety and allow aircraft to land during more adverse weather conditions.”
