Thompson Announces $2 million Federal Transit Administration Grant to Williamsport River Valley Transit

September 13, 2010

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced the Federal Transit Administration under the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $2,002,950 to River Valley Transit for construction related to the Church Street Transportation Center.

“This is another part of the federal funds for the $12 million Church Street Transportation Center that will help to revitalize the city of Williamsport,” said Thompson. “It is anticipated that the Center will make the business district transit-friendly and bring visitors downtown to shop and work.”

The Church Street Transportation Center will support an intercity bus transportation network and River Valley Transit’s (formerly Williamsport Bureau of Transportation) downtown bus routes. The Center is intermodal with more than 500 parking spaces. It will provide bus bays and convenience facilities for the intercity bus transportation and park and ride facilities.

The overall estimated cost of this project is $12 million with an estimated federal share of $8,120,418. Including this grant, FTA has provided a total of $7,320,418 toward the project.
