Thompson Announces $1.3 million to University Park Airport

June 25, 2009

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today announced the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a $1,383,200 grant to the University Park Airport for airport drainage improvements and to install runway lighting.

“The Department of Transportation grant will help the University airport improve the drainage for storm water runoff and provide storage for waste deicing fluids,” said Thompson. “Installation of runway lighting will also include the construction of a new vault building to accommodate the relocated airfield regulators and airfield lighting controls.”

Airport Director Bryan Rodgers said the improvements will start preparing the airport for a future air traffic control tower. “This is an intermediate step that indirectly supports our future airport plan.”
