Media Advisory: Thompson to Detail Legislation on Allegheny National Forest and Mineral Rights
Washington, DC –Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) will hold a press conference, on Friday, Aug. 21, to unveil the “Cooperative Management of Mineral Rights Act,” which will be introduced in the House in the coming weeks. The legislation pertains to the Allegheny National Forest (ANF) and private ownership of mineral rights in national forests across the nation. The measure will repeal existing statute which allows the U.S. Forest Service to create rules relating to the leasing and permitting of privately-held mineral rights in the ANF. Federal courts have ruled the United States Forest Service lacks the regulatory authority and the Cooperative Management of Mineral Rights Act will correct the shortcomings and vagueness of current law.
