ICYMI: Centre Daily Times: ‘Excellent news for the region.’ Penn State to Establish Manufacturing Hub in DuBois
BELLEFONTE, Pa. — U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-Pa.) celebrated the U.S. Department of Commerce’s recent announcement awarding Penn State $39.9 million to establish the DuBois Center for Innovation. Rep. Thompson worked with Secretary Howard Lutnick to secure the funding.
From the Centre Daily Times
..."U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-Howard, described the development as “excellent news for the region.”
“Our region is the epicenter of the world’s powdered metals industry, and this investment will ensure that we remain globally competitive into the future,” Thompson said in a written statement. “I was proud to push for this project, which will significantly enhance the regional talent pipeline and global competitiveness in an area facing persistent workforce shortages.”
Penn State said the grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration is expected to catalyze nearly $200 million in public and private investment. Up to three-quarters of the total could come from “potential investment” from Bunting Magnetics & Magnetic Applications.
The hub is to be designed to grow the region’s manufacturing economy and accelerate innovation in the pressed metals industry, a specialized field that uses pressure, heat and technology to transform fine metal and other material powders into high-performance components and products."
