Thompson Votes to Impose Sanctions on Russia, North Korea, Iran

Jul 25, 2017

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Representative Glenn 'GT' Thompson issued the following statement after voting in favor of imposing sanctions on Russia, North Korea and Iran:

“North Korea, and Iran continue to pose threats to the safety of Americans, while Russia continues aggressions in eastern Ukraine and continues to posture after attempts to utilize cyber threats to undermine American democracy and our election processes. This overwhelmingly bipartisan agreement will levy new sanctions upon Iran and North Korea, aiming to prevent the two countries from furthering their nuclear weapons programs. The further sanctions against Russia will target the government and individuals in an effort to ensure that Moscow does not replicate its campaign aimed at the U.S. Presidential election to future attempts to influence worldwide, including against U.S. allies and their elections. I am hopeful the Senate will continue to work in a bipartisan manner to advance this thoughtful and even-keeled legislation to the President’s desk in a timely manner."
