Thompson Supports Long-term Transportation Bill

Nov 5, 2015

Washington, DC –U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) today voted in favor of H.R. 22, the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act, which provides for the long-term authorization of the surface transportation law, helping improve our nation’s roads, bridges and public transportation systems.  The legislation authorizes $325 billion over the next six years and will provide more certainty when it comes to infrastructure and transportation planning.

Thompson issued the following statement upon passage:

“Today the House has provided a bipartisan roadmap with directions on how to maintain our infrastructure and bring our roads, bridges, and transit systems into the 21st century.

“Road, bridge and transit projects are never thrown together over night and they take some time to conclude, whether backlog maintenance or new construction. This legislation, for the first time in more than a decade, will bring certainty to planning process and empower local and state governments, who best understand their region’s transportation needs.

“This is a big step in the right direction and I commend House Transportation & Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (PA-9), along with the members of the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation who sit on the committee, for the hard work and efforts to bring this historic bill up for a vote.”
