WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, chairman of the House Agriculture Nutrition Subcommittee, supports the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s announcement of a Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) for Texans recovering from Hurricane Harvey.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced today that households who may not normally be eligible under regular SNAP rules may qualify for D-SNAP if they meet the disaster income limits and have qualifying disaster-related expenses.

“The House just last week approved critical hurricane relief for those who have suffered devastating losses as a result of Hurricane Harvey, and I support USDA’s commitment to ensuring no American goes hungry,” Chairman Thompson said. “Those affected by the hurricane should not be concerned with where their next meal is coming from, and the D-SNAP program fulfills a critical need to those struggling to recover from this unprecedented disaster.”
