Thompson Supported National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 Passes House

May 19, 2016

Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) this evening voted in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDDA) for Fiscal Year 2017 (H.R. 4909), which passed the House by a vote of 277 to 147.

“Our Armed Forces face unprecedented threats and we must ensure our service men and women have the resources necessary to address emerging and existing threats across the globe,” said Thompson. "This defense authorization will help rebuild our military after several years of force reductions and takes into account the need to modernize equipment and troop readiness," added Thompson.

The NDAA authorizes more than $610 billion for defense-related programs and includes a scheduled 2.1 percent pay increase for America’s service men and women. The legislation enhances and simplifies health care for service members, veterans and their families, extending care at military treatment facilities beyond normal business hours and provides new health care coverage options.

“Our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and guardsmen place their lives on the line for this country every day,” Thompson said. “Increasing compensation and benefits, alongside of simplifying health care services for troops and their families is the least our country can do to show our gratitude for these brave men and women."
