Thompson Issues Statement Recognizing National Manufacturing Day

Oct 6, 2016

Washington, DC – Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today highlighted the importance of manufacturing to the economy of Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District, in recognition of the 5th annual “National Manufacturing Day,” on Friday, Oct. 7.  The celebration was designed to raise awareness of the importance of manufacturing across the nation, especially for students looking toward their future careers.  Businesses involved in manufacturing are vital to Pennsylvania’s economy, with advanced manufacturing ranking among the Commonwealth’s top five industries.  In recognition of “National Manufacturing Day,” Thompson issued the following statement:

“Communities in Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District have been known for generations as leaders in manufacturing.  Nearly one in ten people across the Commonwealth work for a manufacturer, many in jobs that are family-supporting.

“A key to the future of manufacturing is quality career and technical education.  That is why I introduced the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, which passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support.  This legislation will modernize and reform our career and technical education programs, to help students enter the workforce with the skills they need to compete for high-skilled, in-demand jobs, including those in manufacturing.”
