Thompson Congratulates Commissioning of Legislative Staff to the rank of Second Lieutenant, US Army Reserve

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) issued the following statement of congratulations on the Commissioning of Darrell R. Owens to the rank of Second Lieutenant, United States Army Reserve. Second Lieutenant Owens, Thompson’s Military Legislative Assistant, was born and raised in Waterford, Pennsylvania.

“I have witnessed Darrell’s passion for issues specific to our armed forces and the needs of those who serve or have served this great Nation,” said Rep. Thompson. “For this reason, it is of no surprise that this young man would decide to make this commitment to serve our Nation in the ranks of the United States Army.  My wife Penny and I want to communicate how very proud we are of Darrell and congratulate him on this special occasion.”

The Commissioning Ceremony was held Friday evening, November 30, 2012, in the U.S. House Veterans' Affairs' Full Committee Room, in Washington, D.C.  Lieutenant General Patricia D. Horoho, Army Surgeon General and Commanding General of the United States Army Medical Command, the host of the ceremony, administered the Oath of Office.  

Rep. Thompson gave the invocation and opening remarks, and assisted, along with Mrs. Heather Owens, Darrell’s wife, in the Pinning Ceremony.  SGM Olivia Warner performed the First Salute.
